Meet Mayna and Jason. They’re expecting their first baby and making it look oh so good and easy.
I’ve known Jason for years through mutual friends and he’s always been the funny, gregarious guy within our group. Never one to shy away from cracking inappropriate jokes (usually at his own expense), you can always hear him laughing and having a good time. That’s why if you find yourself hanging out with Jay, no doubt you’ll be laughing and having a blast right along with him. It’s kind of contagious. And Mayna I met at one of Jason’s birthdays around the time they first started dating and over the years she’s become one of my favourite ladies. We’ve connected through our mutual love for photography and I’m continually inspired by her creativity and kindness. I love these two together and couldn’t be more excited about the new chapter that’s about to start for them.
And I wasn’t surprised when they chose Steveston as the location for their maternity shoot. If you look through Mayna’s gorgeous Instagram feed (and you should > instagram.com/maynalu), beautiful photos of Steveston abound. Whether they’re taking in the view of the ships at Fisherman’s Wharf or sharing an ice cream in the village, you can tell it’s a special spot for them. And I have no doubt it’ll continue to be once their baby girl arrives.Really, could this couple look any more happier or relaxed? At the time of this photoshoot, I believe Mayna was 36 weeks pregnant. 36 weeks! Is this fair?! She is glowing and gorgeous and giving me a serious case of belly envy. It was difficult for me to not post every single photo from their gallery – their sunny personalities just shine through in every shot. And this photo right here? My favourite from the bunch. ♥I’m elated for these guys and cannot wait to meet their little one who could be arriving any day now. The last couple weeks are always a time of mixed emotions, especially with a first baby. It can be a time of hopeful excitement on one end and nervous uncertainty on the other. But I don’t think anything – no book or even well-intentioned advice from other parents – can really prepare you for how much your life changes once a baby’s in the mix. Or how much you will feel when you first lay eyes on that tiny face you’ve been waiting on for the last nine months.
Mayna and Jay, thank you so much for letting me capture these moments for you. Of just the two of you, before you’re consumed by the inevitable love and chaos of new parenthood… which I know you will rock. xo
