Parksville | Vancouver Family Photographer

Back in May, I spent some long overdue quality time with my family. My sister-in-law’s mom was in town from Seoul and they were planning a few days of fun in Parksville to show her around the island and spend some time with each other. When I heard, I pretty much invited myself and my boys to tag along. I remember going on family camping trips to Parksville as a child and was feeling nostalgic. The last time I had gone on a trip with them was close to 8 years ago so some extended family time was most welcome. Unfortunately my husband and youngest brother could not join us, but don’t feel too sorry for them. My brother was off learning how to surf in Tofino and my husband got a few days all to himself. You’re welcome, husband. 😛

So on Victoria Day we set off for the ferries and a couple of hours later we arrived at Rathtrevor Beach in Parksville, BC. The resort we stayed at was waterfront. I’m talking grassy area right outside your back door and the sandy beach just beyond that. It was beautiful and perfect for the kids. My 5 year old is already asking to go back, pretty please.Family trip to Parksville, BC.Family trip to Parksville, BC.Family trip to Parksville, BC.Family trip to Parksville, BC.Family trip to Parksville, BC.It also happened to be my nephew’s 3rd birthday during the trip. Look at this guy. He’s a spitting image of my brother when he was the same age and has his mom’s beautiful eyes. He is always this happy and adorable. Seeing how much he’s grown in these photos is giving me a little case of the guilts for not spending more time with him. So this is when I can conveniently blame my own kids for taking up so much of my time. Happy birthday, baby J. We all love you soooo much!Family trip to Parksville, BC.Family trip to Parksville, BC.Family trip to Parksville, BC.Seriously, the setting was just too good to be true. We had a little photo session with baby J after dinner one night and he was a natural model. And it’s crazy to think that the last time my brother and I were here together we were not too much older than these little guys. It’s pretty neat to think that our kids are literally following in our footsteps together.Family trip to Parksville, BC.Family trip to Parksville, BC.Family trip to Parksville, BC.Family trip to Parksville, BC.Family trip to Parksville, BC.This quick getaway was just what I needed (hello, I prepped and cooked ZERO meals – bliss!) but I remember thinking before we left that three nights might be a little too long. Too long for my boys to be away from home and too long for all of us to be under the same roof. I thought yes, the beach would be relaxing but it might get boring without anything else to do there for a few days. I was wrong. Between all the lounging, clam digging, and feasting, the three nights flew by just like that. And seeing as how it’s more challenging these days with our kids and busy schedules to all get together at any one time, I’m thankful for times like these and reminded how much I want my kids to remember their grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins when they look back on family trips. Just like I do when I look back on mine. ♥Family trip to Parksville, BC.Family trip to Parksville, BC.Family trip to Parksville, BC.Family trip to Parksville, BC.
